The History of The Rectory

Built in 1906 by remarkable master craftsmen brought over from Poland, The Rectory shares its heritage with the historic St. Michael’s Catholic Church—now known as the Chapel of the Archangels. These talented craftsmen created both buildings with an extraordinary attention to detail and craftsmanship that can still be admired more than a century later.

For generations, The Rectory served as the official residence for the priests of St. Michael’s, as well as visiting clergy. Today, this grand historic home continues to welcome guests while preserving the elegance, craftsmanship, and character of its past.

When the House Picked Us

In 2009, Jimmie Walker and Jim Hasey were living in Lakewood, California, when the idea of Bed & Breakfast living began calling their names.
Actually, the house picked us.
And so began our adventure.
After moving to Beaver Dam and living here for a year, we had the opportunity to acquire the old St. Michael’s church complex. That led to the creation of the Chapel of the Archangels, our wedding and reception venue, allowing us to bring together The Rectory, the Chapel, and our love of hospitality into one truly unique experience.

And Then There Was Baby… and Rosie

We shared our home with our beloved shelter cat, Baby, who arrived in our lives much like The Rectory did—Baby picked us.
After nearly 15 years together, we sadly lost Baby in July 2024.
Then, in August 2024, another little soul from the Dodge County Humane Society found her way into our lives. Her name is Rosie.
And, just like Baby and just like the house before her…
Rosie picked us.

A New Chapter

In July and August of 2024, we both retired from our longtime daytime careers. Retirement has given us more time to enjoy the things we love most—working in the gardens, tending the landscaping, taking afternoon rides on the Harley, welcoming our guests, and creating memorable weddings at the Chapel of the Archangels.
So don't be surprised if your breakfast includes something freshly picked from our garden. Around here, farm-to-breakfast isn't just a slogan—it's what's growing outside our door.
